Service Description

This welcoming course is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, guiding you through the essential fundamentals of becoming a confident first responder in emergency situations. You'll not only gain the skills to effectively assist in an emergency, but also learn how to identify and prevent common illnesses and injuries from occurring or worsening. At Ixchel First Aid, we are deeply committed to representation and inclusivity. Our courses not only meet the rigorous American Heart Association standards for high-quality CPR, AED, and first aid skills, but also provide a safe and open environment to discuss how implicit biases can unfortunately interfere with the delivery of life-saving aid. We will thoughtfully and critically examine the concerning disparities in survival rates for women, which are often influenced by cultural sensitivities surrounding the body. Therefore we will have hands-on practice with mannequins representing women of color, our goal is to help desensitize stigma, enhance comfort levels, and ultimately contribute to a significant improvement in the survival rates for all individuals, especially women and people of color experiencing cardiac arrest. Furthermore, we will engage in practical, hands-on role-playing exercises specifically focused on providing compassionate care to survivors of trauma, exploring how their experiences may influence our approach. This comprehensive training also includes in-depth discussions on emotional intelligence and the vital distinction between cultural humility and cultural competency. We want you to leave feeling empowered and confident in your ability to be both kind and laser focused in the event of an emergency.  Be the change in your community, safety starts with you, whether its emotional, mental or physical safety.
